Introduction to European Tapestry Needlepoint October 24th

You’ll be introduced to the essential foundations of European tapestry needlepoint in a way that feels approachable, thoughtful, and beautifully paced. We’ll begin with an overview of the materials and tools used in traditional tapestry work, including canvas, needles, fibers, and the different textures and weights that influence the finished piece.

As part of the workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to choose a needlepoint canvas of your choice, designed to finish at approximately 8" x 10", and receive your own carefully prepared starter kit to use during the class and take home with you. Your kit will include the needle, coordinating threads, and scissors needed to begin your project.

From there, you’ll learn several fundamental stitches and how they are used to create structure, movement, detail, and depth within a design. We’ll also explore how to read your canvas, begin and finish threads neatly, maintain even tension, and develop the small techniques that help give needlepoint a polished, beautifully finished appearance.

You’ll work directly on the canvas you selected, allowing you to begin a piece that reflects your own personal style while learning each technique in a practical, hands-on way. Along the way, you’ll gain a better understanding of color, texture, fiber selection, and how traditional European tapestry techniques can be used in both classic and contemporary designs.

Whether you are completely new to needlepoint or simply looking to reconnect with a slower, more intentional creative practice, this workshop offers a welcoming and unhurried introduction to the craft. The focus is not on perfection, but on building confidence, understanding the process, and enjoying the rhythm and satisfaction of stitching by hand.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your chosen 8" x 10" canvas, complete needlepoint kit, work in progress, and the knowledge and confidence needed to continue stitching at home.

Should I bring my own snacks?

We will have a selection of refreshments included in your ticket. However if you have certain dietry requirements feel free to bring your own

Do I need to be crafty or have experience?

No prior experience is necessary and is even suitable for ones 13+.
